Every summer hundreds of thousands of people flock to Del Mar for the San Diego County Fair. Last year, 1.6 million people visited the fair for the epic eats, rides, and amazing concerts.
Each year the fair food vendors go above and beyond to create some of the craziest concoctions to draw in the foodies. This year is certainly no exception. See the full list of food and drinks here.
I was super excited to check out some of the new bites this year, so I turned to instagram to see what was buzzing. And now I’m hungry, so let’s dive in!
First up is Chicken Charlie’s, a tried and true fair favorite! New this year, is the debut of their Peanut Butter Meatballs. Meatballs that are deep fried, and then drizzled with a peanut butter sauce and powdered sugar. They’re a bit strange to me, but I like the fried dough with peanut butter part.
Not the new kid on the block, but a true classic, the Deep Fried Oreos! They’re as delicious as you’d hope them to be.
I don’t know anyone who doesn’t like bacon, so I was super excited to check out Bacon A-Fair! Shout out to Victor for our bacon goodies: bacon wrapped asparagus, bacon wrapped pineapple, and bacon wrapped brussel sprouts. My personal favorite was the asparagus, followed by the pineapple, and last but not least, the brussel sprouts.
As a girl who grew up in the midwest, roasted corn is a fair requirement, but I’m obsessed with the west coast version, elote! Roasted corn mixed with salt, butter, chile powder, mayonaise (don’t knock it till you try it!), cotija, and lime juice. Get your own cob or cup of this amazing corn by looking for a giant, inflatable ear!
I love how many things can be served on a stick, especially the baked potato from Texas Tater Twisters! This spiraled baked potato is deep fried, and then coated in garlic and parmesan cheese. This tasty treat is delicious and super easy to eat while walking around the fair.
I saved the most fun fair food for last, Nitrogen Infused Popcorn from the Candy Factory. This candied Nitro Pop is saturated in liquid nitrogen for that “dragon’s breath” effect. A fun experience for kids and adults alike.
The fair is always a good time, and though I’m late in the season to check it out, you still have time. The fair is open through the 4th of July. There’s still much more food to taste, talent to see, and tons more fun to be had. Click here to see what Oh-So Yummy has to say about the fair this year!
