My Top 5 Favorites at Luna Grill

In a city where there’s a taco shop on every corner, how do you maintain a healthy and well-balanced diet while still enjoying food that you don’t have to cook yourself…especially given the entire last year, right?! That’s why I’m dropping my top 5 favorites at Luna Grill, let’s go!

I recently read an article from the Mayo Clinic about the Mediterranean diet, and it resonated with me. What is the Mediterranean diet?

“The Mediterranean diet is a way of eating based on the traditional cuisine of countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea. While there is no single definition of the Mediterranean diet, it is typically high in vegetables, fruits, whole grains, beans, nuts and seeds, and olive oil.”

Speaking of the Mediterranean diet, did you know that May is Mediterranean diet month? *Spoiler alert, this diet does include wine, which means I’m in! The purpose of this diet is that it’s heart-healthy, full of good fats, and omega-3 fatty acids. This brings me to my top 5 favorites at Luna Grill!

1. Chicken Kabob and Ground Sirloin Plate

This dish is my tried and true number one and I always order it; yes, I know I’m a creature of habit! You may think that all chicken kabobs are created equal, however, you’d be wrong, lol. This plate includes a chicken kabob, ground sirloin kabob, basmati rice, pita bread, tzatziki, and a house salad. The chicken kabobs are succulent and juicy and it’s no wonder since they’re marinated for twelve hours! The sirloin kabobs are flavorful and savory. I mean, just look at how that meat glistens! The rice! Why am I such a sucker for their basmati rice? For me, this entree checks all the boxes leaving me full and satiated (often with leftovers) while feeling like I had a great balance of proteins, grains, and vegetables and never compromising on flavor!

2. Spicy Harissa Hummus

The Harissa Hummus is their newest flavor of hummus dropping this month, and it’s a must-try! Luna Grill’s recipe includes bell peppers, jalapeño, garlic, cilantro, and other spices. It’s incredibly addicting and I’ve never put down a heap of hummus like I did with the harissa hummus!

Luna Grill offers either fresh pita bread or veggies (or both) with their hummus flavors and dips. I prefer both veggies and pita! Pick which you’d like best with your hummus because May 13th is International Hummus Day and Luna Grill is giving away a small plate of its brand-new Spicy Harissa Hummus (for dine-in only, while supplies last, at all locations)! Mark your calendars now!

3. Loaded Fries

These loaded fries are making moves. Let’s be honest, fries are one of life’s best guilty pleasures! These fries are loaded with spicy feta, diced tomatoes, scallions, oregano, feta cheese, and garlic feta sauce. Warning: ingesting their garlic feta sauce will give you superpowers enabling you to fight off vampires for at least a day!

4. Lunatic Sampler

I’ll take one of everything, please! What’s great about the sampler is the variety of bites you get. The stuffed grape leaves have a burst of lemon mixed in with the rice filling. The crispy falafel are heavenly, and pair well with some tahini or tzatziki.

For me though, the shining star of this sampler is the couscous. It’s so simple, yet it feels like an indulgent pasta. The Israeli couscous is full of veggies and bright flavors with diced tomatoes, chopped cucumber, red onion, mint, parsley, scallions, and feta cheese.

5. Baklava

We can’t forget dessert, so bring on some Baklava! Also, this just happens to be one of my favorite words, EVER! There’s just something about saying this word with oomph! Go ahead, say it loud and proud, I’ll wait! 😊 So, what is Baklava? Baklava is a dessert made by stacking several layers of filo dough (puff pastry) and filling the layers with honey and nuts. Biting into a piece is a little bit crunch, a little bit squish, and a whole lot of yum! Try eating just one piece! Pop quiz: did you know that the Baklava is made right here in San Diego?
